Our Privacy Philosophy

This Year is built with your privacy in mind. Your goals, voice notes, and progress are personal. We treat them that way.

Your data is encrypted and stored securely. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

1. Data Storage

This Year requires an account to use the app. Your data syncs securely to our servers so you can access it across devices. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

2. Voice Recording Privacy

When you record a voice note:

Audio is transcribed using Apple's on-device speech recognition when available
For AI goal extraction, your transcript (not audio) is sent securely to our AI processing service
We do not store or retain your voice recordings on our servers
Transcripts used for AI processing are not used to train AI models

3. AI Processing

This Year uses AI to extract goals from your voice notes and create action items:

Only your transcript text is processed (not voice audio)
Processing happens on secure servers
Your data is not used to train AI models
Results are returned to your device and stored according to your data storage preference

4. What We Collect

With an account:

Email address (for account recovery)
Your goals, actions, and check-ins (encrypted)
Subscription status (if applicable)

Anonymous analytics:

App usage patterns (which features are used)
Device type and iOS version
Crash reports

What we do NOT collect:

Voice recordings
Location data
Contacts or photos

5. Third-Party Services

This Year uses the following third-party services:

Supabase: Secure database and authentication
Apple: Speech recognition, authentication (Sign in with Apple), and in-app purchases
AI Provider: Goal extraction and action planning (text only, no audio)

6. In-App Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We receive:

Confirmation that a subscription is active
No payment information
No personal identifying information beyond what you provide

7. Data Deletion

You can delete your data at any time by using the "Delete Account" option in Settings. This will remove all your data from our servers.

8. Children's Privacy

This Year is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you through the app or via email (if you have an account).
